Welcome to Kamea Tech Tour!

Deep dive into Kamea IoT device management platform technical capabilities.

Our engineering team has been building IoT solutions for over 20 years for device manufacturers from various industries. And here’s what we’ve learned: every IoT project has unique business logic, but the technical foundation is almost always the same. No matter the vertical, teams face the same challenges:

  • How do devices connect securely to the cloud?
  • How do they authenticate?
  • How do they send data, get configured remotely, and receive updates?

On top of that, there’s the operational layer: managing users, defining roles, and controlling access to device fleets. These are universal problems.

That’s why we built Kamea, a device management platform designed to handle these common needs out of the box, while giving you the flexibility to add your own business logic.

What is Kamea?

Kamea is an API-first IoT device management platform that covers the essentials:

Our approach is “semi off-the-shelf”: ready to deploy AND fully customizable. You get a solid foundation and the freedom to extend it through well-defined integration points.

Kamea core principles: openness, flexibility, durability & control

Kamea was born from a strong conviction: autonomy and control should stay in the hands of the client. Unlike SaaS solutions that lock you into proprietary models and expose you to the risk of deprecation, Kamea gives you the keys to stay in control.

Our approach is built on four pillars:

Cloud-agnosticism

Kamea is not a SaaS platform: you deploy the platform on your cloud.

Our device management platform is cloud-agnostic. Built on Kubernetes and open-source technologies, Kamea supports AWS, GCP, Azure, and even on-premise environments (cf section on Kamea infrastructure).

API-first

Kamea IoT device management platform infrastructure with backend and frontend

Kamea is designed as an API consumed by a generic frontend. You can use our interface or replace it with your own application (web, mobile, desktop). This architecture allows you to:

  • Build custom applications (mobile, web, desktop).
  • Integrate Kamea into your existing ecosystem.

Keep your business logic separate from the technical layer.

Supported devices

We define a device as the digital representation of a physical equipment that sends data to the cloud. It can be anything, from a microcontroller with a real-time operating system to an embedded Linux system or even a PC. What matters is not the hardware, but its ability to communicate.

Whether your device speaks MQTT, HTTP, or a proprietary protocol, Kamea can integrate it. The platform is designed to be extensible, allowing new communication protocols to be added quickly and securely.

Source code

We provide full access to the platform’s source code to ensure transparency and control for your development team. This includes:

  • Core platform and application code: the complete implementation of device management features. No per-device nor per-user limit.
  • Deployment automation: Terraform scripts and CI/CD pipelines for reproducible infrastructure setup and continuous delivery.
  • Test coverage: automated test suites integrated into the pipelines to validate functionality and stability.
  • Documentation: detailed technical guides for deployment, configuration, and extension points.

How does this Tech Tour work?

This Tech Tour guides you step by step through Kamea key features. Each section, accessible via the left-hand menu, lets you explore the technical building blocks of our solution and understand how our platform supports you in your fleet management and connectivity.
